Indonesia Identifies 100 New Sites with Potential Nickel Reserves
The Geological Agency of Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has revealed that the country has at least 100 additional sites with untapped nickel reserves.
According to local media, the agency's head, Muhammad Wafid, stated that their findings point to at least 100 new locations with potential for further exploration.
These discoveries reinforce Indonesia's status as the world's leading nickel producer, a crucial material for electric vehicle batteries. Wafid emphasized that exploration for new deposits will continue.
In the previous year, Indonesia produced 1.8 million tonnes of nickel, accounting for half of the global production. Nickel exports generated 33.5 billion USD annually for Indonesia.
